Peter Bale and Bernard Hickey talk about the week's geopolitics; Putin vs Biden, China's Hong Kong repression and America's four tribes; plus a quick lap around house prices and interest rates.

This week we took a look at the first Biden vs Putin summit in Geneva (Not Vienna as originally written) and couldn’t help but wonder at clever and strategic darkness of Putin. We talked about Ukraine’s sneaky attempt to join Nato while no one was looking and how Russia has managed to make Europe more dependent on its gas.

Peter, who writes the Bulletin World Weekly on The Spinoff, pointed to China’s clampdown on Apple Daily in Hong Kong and talks through these great insights from George Packer about the four tribes now not talking to each other in America.

Closer to home, we talk through the inflation and interest rate outlook in the wake of our stonking GDP figures and the Fed’s slightly more hawkish view of the world. And we couldn’t help but talk about New Zealand’s crazy house prices.

Enjoy.
