TLDR & TLDR: PM Jacinda Ardern is considering whether to put the whole country into the traffic lights system of using vaccination mandates from Nov 29, rather than just Auckland, Newsroom’s Jo Moir reports this morning. That would remove border issues and further encourage vaccinations in the regions, but risks opening up well before less-vaccinated DHBs such as Tairawhiti, Northland, Taranaki and Whanganui are anywhere near fully vaccinated.
Elsewhere, house price inflation accelerated to a monthly rate in October of 3.3% from 2.0% in September, despite higher mortgage rates, more restricted lending rules, the Govt’s tax deductibility ‘shock’ and zero net migration. Just imagine what the rate would have been without those interventions?
Overseas overnight, the US and China announced a surprise agreement to cooperate on responding to climate change (albeit without encouraging specifics), the border dispute in Eastern Europe worsened and Xi Jinping was put on a track to become China’s leader for life.
