TLDR: PM Jacinda Ardern confirmed overnight she will have a face-to-face meeting with China’s President Xi Jinping at the APEC summit in Bangkok on Friday or Saturday, which would be their first in-person meeting since 2019.
Ardern told Press Gallery reporters travelling with her on a trade mission to Vietnam that she would ask Xi to use his influence with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin to end the war in Ukraine. She also said would raise climate change, China’s Pacific expansion, the human rights situation of Uighurs in Xinjiang and China’s approaches to Taiwan and Hong Kong in the meeting.
