Including a 'popup' hoon webinar with Peter Bale & University of Otago Professor Robert Patman to discuss what Vladimir Putin's decision to send troops into Ukraine means, and what might happen now
I'm not sure how familiar you are with the work of Peter Zeihan, he's well regarded in the US and has quite an interesting take on global politics and economics.
This is a short clip of one of his presentations he recently did for the US armed forces for any interested (there is a heap more on youtube):
Thanks Bernard, just caught up on this hoon, hard to better Peter Bale and Robert Patman on the Ukraine situation. Excellent!
If there are any social policy economists (adviser to Salvation Army for instance) it would be good to hear their thoughts on the MPS and what they hope for when they see/hear what the RB is thinking.
Would be great to invite Kate Raworth to comment on how a Doughnut approach might address Aotearoa issues on climate, infra, housing and child poverty in a holistic manner.
I'd be interested to hear the commentary of Dr Donald Brash or Dr Alan Bollard on the monetary policy statement being made by the committee. As a perspective to open up thoughts on the current situation Aotearoa-NZ is in right now.
As for time of day and length, I believe the agenda will drive the interest, and the Ukrainian Russia is a hot topic right now. Host it, and they will come.
Hi Bernard. Excellent stuff as always. Minor gripe though here from pedant corner. On this and other hoons there’s often the audible sound of someone typing in the background. On this episode you can hear it for example around the 20 and 21 minute mark. May be Peter doing it (!) Just needs to go on silent. Thank you for tolerating my fussiness and pedantry!

It's quite a compelling explanation about the fundamental push the Russian state needs to maintain to exists.
Honestly, it would super fabulous if you could somehow have a chat with him! Funnily enough he studied at Otago in the mid 90's.
Many thanks for your ongoing super work!
Michael Reddell, if you can’t get him any of the half dozen people Adrian has fired, otherwise Jenee will be a good hoon companion

Really helpful, Bernard - I was too flat out earlier to join in real time, but this has usefully complemented news from other sources.

Agree that Michael Reddell would a worthy contributor, but how about some other voices, such as Girol Karacaoglu and Ganesh Nana.

This was great, cheers Bernard. Very timely and topical.
