We built a house using a house builder's plan, making adjustments to increase airflow, adding insulation, ceiling fans, and wider eaves. Our north-facing house in Northland hardly ever has the air conditioning running, and with the concrete floor, we don't run the heat very often. It can be done!

The Australian govt has a lot of free info available online about designing a house, including free house plans, which was really helpful.

Thanks for the prompt about submitting on the NZ Emissions Reduction Plan. I note the website gives us until 21 August to make our voices heard. (The Kākā suggests we need to get in before the 17th)

I can't help hearing the echo of other 'market solutions' (like social investment, being talked up again by our government and its backers) in things like those carbon insets... Capitalists do love a good fairytale! The only people who will genuinely benefit from measuring Doing Good for profit will be those selling rulers.
