TL;DR: The six key events to watch in Aotearoa-NZ’s political economy in the week to July 15 include:
PM Christopher Luxon is travelling to Washington this week to attend a NATO meeting running from Tuesday to Thursday. Parliament is not sitting this week.
The RBNZ is expected to hold the OCR on Wednesday.
Stats NZ is scheduled to publish selected price indices data for June on Thursday.
Stats NZ is scheduled to publish migration figures for May on Thursday and retail trade data on Friday.
The Weekly Hoon returns for subscribers to The Kākā on Thursday at the regular time of 5:00 pm after a three-week mid-winter break.
BusinessNZ and BNZ publish their PMI survey results for June on Friday.

Monday, July 8
Politics: Parliament’s Primary Production Select Committee is scheduled to meet in private to consider the Resource Management (Freshwater and Other Matters) Amendment Bill. The Health Select Committee meets in private to consider the Inquiry into the aged care sector’s current and future capacity to provide support services for people experiencing early onset neurological cognitive disorders. It will also consider the Therapeutic Products Act Repeal Bill.
Tuesday, July 9
Politics: Parliament’s Primary Production Select Committee meets in public to hear submissions on the Resource Management (Freshwater and Other Matters) Amendment Bill from 9:00 am to 11:50 am. The submitters list is here.
Politics: The Governance and Administration Select Committee meets in public to consider the Restoring Citizenship Removed By Citizenship (Western Samoa) Act 1982 Bill. The submitters list is here.
Wednesday, July 10
Economy: Stats NZ is scheduled to publish migration and international travel data for May at 10:45 am.
Economy: Te Pūtea Matua The Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) is scheduled to publish its next monetary policy decision only at 2:00 pm. Its next full Monetary Policy Statement (MPS) with fresh forecasts is not due until August 14. Economists expect it to hold the Official Cash Rate (OCR) at 5.5%. The RBNZ forecast at its last MPS that it would have to hold the OCR there until August of next year. Most economists expect it to have to cut by November of this year.
Thursday, July 11
Economy: Stats NZ is scheduled to publish selected price indices data for June at 10:45 am, including indices for rent, food, fuel, transport and groceries. This represents about 45% of the full Consumer Price Index data set, which is released quarterly.
The Kākā: The Hoon returns at 5:00 pm for an hour.
Friday, July 12
Economy: BusinessNZ and BNZ are scheduled to publish their PMI survey results for June at 10:30am.
Economy: Stats NZ is scheduled to publish Electronic Card Transactions data measuring retail spending in June at 10:45 am. The full CPI for the June quarter is due on July 17.

July 17 - Stats NZ is scheduled to publish June quarter CPI data.
July 23 - Parliament resumes sitting for a three week block ending August 8.
Aug 14 - RBNZ makes OCR decision and publishes August MPS
September 3 - 5 - Financial Services Council NZ holds its annual conference at Cordis Hotel in Auckland.
October 3 - Stats NZ scheduled to release 2023 Census: Individuals and dwellings.
Oct 9 - RBNZ makes OCR decision only.
Oct 10 - Stats NZ scheduled to release National accounts (income, saving, assets, and liabilities): for June 2024 quarter.
Oct 23 - Stats NZ scheduled to release 2023 Census: Number of electorates and electoral populations.
Nov 5 - US Presidential Elections1
Nov 6 - RBNZ releases half-yearly Financial Stability Report.
Nov 7 - Stats NZ scheduled to release 2023 Census: Families, extended families, and households.
Nov 27 - RBNZ makes final OCR decision for 2024 and releases final MPS for 2024
