In their second Hoon of 2025, Bernard Hickey & Peter Bale chat with regular guest Robert Patman on geopolitics and special guest David Galler about privatisation in health
Not a good Hoon for me. Please get your guests to position themselves centrally and look at the camera. I know, I’m old and angry, but apart from Professor Patman, I just saw pakeha males showing off their new shirts and posh artwork and couldn’t concentrate on the hugely important politics and economics. Very disappointing.
I'm old and angry too, but I'm pleased to realise I've adjusted my mindset with the Hoon. I enjoy the chaos of the live sessions. I cringe at the (hideous) shirts. I get distracted by the (many and wonderful) comments. I laugh at the (sometimes great but often dubious) video quality. As a kind of 'sport' I shout out loud to the screen when Peter interrupts with long-winded, rambling observations (that sometimes lead to a fab question). I figure this is the "fun" element that Bernard mentions on his introduction. And then the next day (because I'm old and have the time, and I realise I'm fortunate because not everybody does) I listen to the professional podcast version that Simon produces and am able to concentrate on the message and understand the politics. This week's Hoon is a great example of how much more I've absorbed from the audio version (versus the fun live version). I look at it as double the value.😃
I enjoyed this episode. Our Professor withdrawals have been satisfied.
😎
What was the name of David Geller's book please Bernard.
