Our Supreme Court Judges are fabulous. Very clever people. Watching them at work, I’ve felt very proud of our country. Unfortunately, I don’t get the same feeling watching our government (lol). Go Mike Smith!!

This government would have us to believe there is no such thing as an expert opinion, expert advice, even best practice.

They would like us to simplistically believe that everyone is entitled to their opinion, and therefore a deliberately uneducated opinion is all that is required to destroy, make-up as they go along, and rush in under urgency important legislation.

I can't bare the tough on crime rhetoric that the right spout but, I'd be down with toughening the language around how Parliament and the House must comply with any statutory condition of lawmaking that is addressed to them.

Catherine made some very good points.

Political actors frame the climate crisis in a way that helps them get elected (telling us that we can have our planet and eat it, too). Experts representing property owners, the real estate industry, and the banks frame the housing crisis in a way that benefits their businesses (telling us that that rising house prices and rents are good for the economy).

If you can frame a problem as not a problem, or as in indicator of positive progress, then you no longer have a problem to solve. Except that you do and it continues to get bigger until it finally bursts out of the frame.

And then we have headlines like - "New Zealand’s fertility rate hits record low as births fall" in the guardian today - and we wonder why - my daughter has just turned 29 she has just finished a PhD on her starting salary it would take ten years of her total after tax salary to buy at the very bottom of the market (ie something you wouldn't really want to live in) - and that is not taking into account the $100k+ of student loan she has to pay off - and so cant even think of having a family before she is 40 - so much for 40 years of neoliberal economics - the idiots in Treasury and the Beehive have burned the nation to the ground!
