Bernard Hickey & Peter Bale discuss the week’s news with Cathrine Dyer on NZ effectively reneging on its Paris pledges; Robert Patman on geopolitics & Troy Baisden on the Govt cutting science funding
You are correct when you note that almost no other news/comment publisher is dealing in depth with the rapid changes coming from this NANF government. Especially when they are not founded on experienced and serious research.
You do.
And the Hoon is part of my weekly compulsory viewing.
1) They don't want Social Sciences research as it keeps telling them things they don't want to know.
2) They only see the so-called "hard sciences" as something that is revenue generating - in other words, they don't really understand how science works.
3) Jack Tame was not too persistent - if only more of our journalists were as willing to nail our politicians down, our body politic (and our news media more generally) would be in a much healthier state - witness your discussion with Catherine on our slithering away from our climate targets.
Our government are idiots. But only their purpose is mad. The world is going to hell in a handcart - more so than usual it feels. And the Hoon is one of the few places in our local media landscape that is actually looking at stories and issues in depth that might actually inform and help us as a polity make better decisions.
Israel’s aggression in the mid-east is the most obvious extension of their decades old neo-liberal agenda. As Jill Stein said in her election night speech - because what did she have to lose?
‘It is the US that is conducting this genocide, with Israel as its proxy- it really is time we brought our taxpayer dollars home’.

Please publish today's one.
The Hoon is definitely a hoot!
And Peter did a great job of MC-ing the Helen Clark Foundation event!
I was somewhat surprised but very pleased when my 3 go to current affairs podcasts all took away awards, congrats Bernard

A great Hoon. I particularly appreciated that we were able to hear more from Cathrine this week. 👏
Totally! Catherine was on fire!
Oops, sorry ... Cathrine!

Great hoon. But, please, it’s not a the ‘Israel v Gaza conflict’, it’s a genocide.
Much appreciated again. An hour of sanity and entertainment.
