That photo of Chris Bishop! Like an actual cartoon villain. Love Lynn's work.

If Medecins Sans Frontieres is imploring care in media consumption, it seems credible that there is a significant problem in being able to trust media.

Nothing can excuse scale of destruction being inflicted on Gaza - MSF doctorhttps://www.rnz.co.nz/news/world/503639/nothing-can-excuse-scale-of-destruction-being-inflicted-on-gaza-msf-doctor

While not siding with Winston on the question of integrity, the reliance on regurgitating international msm reporting on the atrocity in Gaza doesn’t do justice to the victims or hold power to account.

While the general commentary re the international media is valid is drawing a line between a New Zealand funding mechanism that ended in June and a Middle East conflict that started in October helpful?

I accept your point. I do wonder what sort of media we would consume if not funded impartially.

I remember Judith Collins and Melissa Lee insinuating that the PIJF was to make the media follow the government line and while as opposition ofcourse they had the right to question or whether public money should be used for it they knew full it was being administered through nz on air. And here Melissa says that it was ignoring the issues of immigrants which was absolutely not true as one of the remits was to give more air to Asian voices https://theplatform.kiwi/podcasts/episode/national-mp-melissa-lee-on-media-funding

It's a classic definition of astroturfing. And now they continue it while in govt because they will have no bottom they are not willing to go down to in order to retain power.

I'd have to disagree with Josie Pagani about the use of Te-Reo in state institutions. Waka Kotahi most certainly do not waste time on where the macron is. It does it's job regardless of what it is called. The only ones kicking a fuss about Te Reo names are, as my young son described it, those who have no real life problems. They already have a comfortable home, a good pension and a rental property (or a few). They are not worried about the cost of living, they are not worried how they will finance a $1m house or survive on the minimum wage.

Peter and Jones, though Maori themselves, are not talking to other Māori in this insistence on having English as the upper language. They are talking to the racists of this country who can't stand the fact that Māori didn't just give up and handed them the country. If there was any language who was literally shoved down someone's throat, it was English. I doubt any of them is having trouble understanding what it means when someone greats them with "bon appétit."

If people find it confusing to have dual language signs, then teach them how to read it (or take away their driving license as they shouldn't be on the roads if they are so easily distracted).

Thanks Merav, I agree with you 💯 Pointing to a macron placement as an issue is an insidious distraction. It falls into the it's-all-good-nothing-to-see-here-folks category. Gaslighting. Death by a thousand small cuts. So disingenuous. So absolutely exhausting.

Even if Josie is great friends with peter & Bernard I think she is a bit light weight

Exactly I find a lot of her articles all over the show can’t quite work out what she stands for.

Exactly I am perplexed at Josie’s rather shallow view and falling for that classic banter of Shane and Winston saying how much you support Te Reo but easily giving the racist anti Māori shock jock Hoskings and ilk fuel to go along with it.

Quite disappointed with Josie. Is she just showing another perspective but to me it makes me wonder if she really believes it.

Bernard, will you be asking the PM for some KPIs on rents coming down? As in how much and how soon? Also, it would be great to have some reporting (even anecdotal) around the refunds tenants must be expecting from their landlords for overpayments from April until the date of reduction.

I found the conversation on Winston incredibly frustrating. He is clearly captured by and pandering to interests groups (horse racing, smoking and conspiracy theorists) but we are not allowed to say it out loud. He however can you his soapbox to lie and distract as he pleases.

That's one of the hypocrisy of politics - the conduct boundaries vary from politician to politician, party to party.

Accross the board, the left are held to a much higher standard of conduct than the right.

Josie needs to read up about the illusion of truth. The more often you hear a lie, the more plausible it sounds. Luxon was feeding that PIJF lie by supporting Winston. They've started another lie with the "snakes" they've found in the treasury cupboard. It's been repeated a few times this week already.

Exactly and this is just how National played the game as soon as Luxon became their leader and National employed the ex employee of Crosby Textor to produce this very clever strategy which WORKED held the narrative to dominate the MSM. MSM were certainly NOT bribed but if anything just capitulated to the rhetoric and agenda of the right National / ACT! That’s how Labour found themselves always defending operating to quell it and not taking the front and lead on their policies!! I’m furious with Labour though, for allowing that to happen making the mistake of backing off CGT or wealth tax and allowing CLIMATE CHANGE to sink to number nine in issues of crisis!! Helped National ACT and NZ FIRST Winston deny and push their pathetic policies with Winston NOT EVEN BELIEVING IN IT!!! Feel quite disillusioned and angry with this awful situation for three years. We could and should have had a very progressive inclusive stable government in Labour/ Green / Te Pati Māori. ☹️

Well well I am totally in agreement with Robert and Bernard on the incredible realisation it must be for many people, maybe even those who always would vote National on the myth they are better managers of economy and businesses that this is what we have ended up with, a coalition of chaos and destruction!!

All the shallow policies National

campaigned on were plainly obvious going back to last century and anti Māori, bent on reversing all the progressive and costed policies of Labour/ Greens/Te Pati Māori . However the secretive coalition deals that weren’t revealed are astounding, as you say Bernard mercurial and punishing! But they are worse than that, are morally wrong unbelievable and shocking! There is a petition whizzing around sent to me from a very reputable family to sign hoping to stop this disgusting stopping Smoke Free legislation to pay for tax cuts!!! . I passed on to several people and have been amazed how they have quickly replied disgusted too and forwarded on.

As for Winston’s attack of MSM , being biased and bribed that is totally wrong. If anything it seemed to me that there was a bias against the government over covid with the anti coverage and journalist negative rude behaviour towards Jacinda. Winston is cunning he is purposely fuelling his anti mandate anti vaccer crowd that voted for him and encouraged during that ghastly protest outside parliament!

I can’t understand Josie’s suggestion the 55 million to media that it could in ANYWAY WHATSOEVER be a bribe!! If anything it’s those awful commercial shock jock radio stations like the Hoskings and Heather and Barry duo that are totally biased right wing relying on commercial donations. Also what about investigating on Tax Payers Union, Ruth Richardson, the founder, still on board, such a right wing bias and investigation needs to be made if they received donations from tobacco companies. Also Chris Bishop’s previous job with tobacco companies very SHADY INDEED! Bribery of course!

Winston’s behaviour is ugly nasty and shameful but this is the price of what NZers have to endure for three years !!!

Reminds me of the awful USA election from Obama to Trump NZ style!!
