Stocks slump 3-4% on renewed global interest rate hike and recession fears; Fletcher promises extra burst of Gib supply; NZ recession risk grows after GDP fall; Revlon bankrupt; Australia power crisis
So if Australia (AUSTRALIA) is running out of coal it’s hard to imagine NZ will be able to continue to get it trouble free from Indonesia forever. We need to run Huntley full time now (have for a while) because our consumption has gone up whilst production in hydro hasn’t (don’t get me started on the wind pipe dream and Green Party objections to every new site…), so presumably NZ will have rolling blackouts soon too. Thoughts on when we face into this next crisis, and whether NZ gets real and actually builds new dams rather than argues about it, or god forbid reopen some coal mines (?!??!&)?
Thanks Sam. I need to dig a lot deeper into the new supply coming and why there isn't a lot more solar in particular. Tiwai Pt uncertainty is a massive pain in the proverbial for everyone.
Just to clarify why Revlon has (probably) gone out of business: Revlon is what your mum used, Kylie is what milenials and Gen Z use.
Ha! Thanks Philip. Two men talking about cosmetics. I just knew the comment thread would come to this. :)
