Thanks Bernard and Catherine for all the work you do in this space. Unfortunately I can hear the climate change deniers already saying that this has happened in the past, it’s in the record and therefore it is nothing new and nothing to worry about. It’s just normal.

Maybe, once insurance becomes a luxury, or just cannot be bought in certain areas people will realise that whether or not they ‘believe’ in human centric climate change is irrelevant. It is happening and it does affect us.

Question on the AKLD airport being underwater with 5m of sea level rise; do we know whether this factors into any of their plans for the future? AKLD council still owns shares? (I’m not up to speed on all these things.) How does this factor into the long term plan?

I hope Hamilton airport has an expansion plan in place, and we are ready to upgrade the rail corridor. :(

I look forward to Shane Jones’ reaction to the European Court decision!

Not just Auckland airport would guess Napier, Nelson, Wellington, Gisborne, Tauranga, Westport and several others will become flooded with a 5m rise in sea level. AirNZ will be down to a couple of domestic routes.

Wellington airport survives at 3M, just, but at 5M its game over, same for Paraparaumu airport, it's a long Uber ride from Palmy to the Wellington CBD

And when one thinks that a number of NZ First, ACT and National MPs don't believe that climate change is occurring, to say nothing of about half of the United States and their erstwhile Leader, one does despair. The only consolation over the effects of climate change which once would have occurred after these leaders were dead and gone, will become more and more apparent during their lifetimes.

Maybe more citizen led prosecutions against governmental inaction, as just happened in Sweden, might change their minds?

Its always feels odd to 'like' a story like this when its so depressing but this is such important work. Thank you both!

A good round up, albeit somewhat depressing.

No doubt the EU/Swiss court case will be heavily appealed. Potentially opens a very large can of worms re the rights of elected governments to act (or not act) on multiple issues beyond just climate. Intrigued how it might influence the Mike Smith case underway here in NZ.

Apparently the EU/Swiss court case cannot be appealed - its decision is final and binding on all 48 member states. Bring on the can(s) of wriggling worms!!

Thank you Catherine and Bernard. My hopes lie in the black and white of insurance companies and in the law. Three cheers for the group of elderly ladies of Switzerland! Wonderful use of a little spare cash. Amazing investment.
