It seems there is a willingness to overlook toxic workplace cultures - so long as the people at the top can manufacture a favourable public image that “we all” partake in.
John Key’s “clean, green New Zealand” narrative is a perfect example - that branding still lingers today like a fake PR smile - despite the reality on the ground.
The higher up the food chain someone sits, the more insulated they become. Scrutiny seldom visits those with status - influence, and the power to control the narrative can deal with internal niggles.
Top down accountability seems less important in the corporate business model. Manufacturing Image is where awards are at.
If I were homeless and having to sleep in doorways I would commit a crime so that I would be sent to prison. At least I would be fed and I would be warm. Our illustrious leader has said money is not a problem so it is a no brainer.

I was fascinated to learn that Putin demands a chunk of money from billionaires to operate in Russia. It would seem they are willing to do so.
