Bernard Hickey, Peter Bale, Cathrine Dyer & Robert Patman discuss the week in geopolitics, politics in NZ, the economy & climate; plus special guests Jonathan Lyons & Fran O’Sullivan
The latest Luxon challenge is just another round in the battle between the evangelical culture warriors and urban liberals in the National party. It is schism that has torn National apart since the culture warriors elevated Todd Muller to the leadership over Simon Bridges and dogged the Collins years. Luxon was supposed to be the second coming of Key and capable of uniting the factions behind a record of electoral success by reprising the Key/English era, but now he has proved to be an ineffectual stuffed shirt and Willis a complete disaster the fissures have re-emerged.
This government is a one-trick pony. All they can do is cut. That's their answer to any problem or issue. Oh, cut and also build hugely expensive motorways going nowhere to nowhere. So, be fair: two tricks. Then they stand around with a "who farted" look on their face as everything breaks down and the wheels fall off.
