Bernard Hickey & Peter Bale chat with Cathrine Dyer, Robert Patman & Sanjana Hattotuwa about the importance & meaning of Donald Trump's new National Security Strategy of the United States for NZ
I found this hard to watch, because of Peter's constant interjections. I really don't know why we need blokes to call out racism or mysogyny. I don't think Peter calls out either, frankly. Please let your guests speak their truths.
Bernard lamented (17'32") that media had so much misinformation and many made no apparent attempt to increase understanding, and often lean on emotion. No surprise in that approach given the imperative for private owners to make a living in an increasingly fast paced and short-of-attention readership and subscribers competitive world. So literally what do the experts say to counter that? Do we just give up? Do nothing? Given the alarming USA NSS topic of this Hoon and the silence from our Government, then I think that there is a responsibility on each person that is capable to do something to improve their understanding, dialogue with others in their friends, communities etc, think critically, learn about antidotes to misinformation etc and to act. It would be good to hear from an expert to respond to Bernards lament. I have learnt a lot from Dr Jess Berentson-Shaw and her publications on communications and framing and responding in a way to engage, and understand, not polarise at a personal/professional level. Hint: It is not name calling, blaming, and yelling back from fear or outrage (even if you really want too). What do experts suggest citizens can do to stop the slippage into slop and increase critical thinking, or any thinking?
I really appreciated this. The confluence of far right racism and misogyny is pretty gross, and we need blokes to call it.
No lt mention Christmas?! Wash your mouth out Peter, we are not cancelling that

Great to hear from Sanjana. Horrifying too. I think he is absolutely on the nail.

This episide of "On with Kara Swisher" is a fascinating (terrifying) conversation that ties in with the topics discussed on "The Hoon" this week.

Depressing how easily the advances of deades can be reversed
To wrestle control Bernard, we , all countries should nationalise Google, meta, Amazon, Twitter etc
