TL;DR: As of 6:00 am on Friday, July 19, the top six announcements, speeches, reports and research around housing, climate and poverty in Aotearoa’s political economy in the last day are:

  1. The PSA announced the Employment Relations Authority (ERA) had ruled in the PSA’s favour in its case against the Ministry of Education over the disestablishment of 755 roles.

  2. The Department of Internal Affairs announced SkyCity agreed to close its Auckland casino for five days on the condition it be allowed to keep its operator's licence. A DIA investigation found it breached its obligations by letting a customer gamble continuously.

  3. Auckland Transport announced confirmation that, from Sunday, it would introduce a $50 seven-day fare cap on AT buses, trains, inner harbour ferries, meaning that customers won't pay more than $50 per week.

  4. The Electricity Authority announced that it is developing six initiatives to better handle peak demand periods and support energy security, including undertaking work to enhance battery energy storage systems.

  5. Ipsos released research evaluating and comparing attitudes towards equality and discrimination in 30 countries, including in New Zealand, where it found people were less concerned about inequality than other countries, but more concerned than last year about enough being done to improve it.

  6. SEEK NZ reported job ads fell 8% in June from May and were 35% lower than a year earlier.
