Absolutely we don't scrutinise our local politicians enough. It's very difficult to discover who supports what at deeper than the superficial level of self-disclosure.. The favourite in my ward (v. horticultural district) has 2 very fancy-looking posters, one wearing the local rugby club strip, the other holding a handful of potatoes. Comes from one of those C.19th pioneer families, so probably has plenty of assets to enhance.
I like the Mini Hoon format. A chance to listen to an interview with a specialist commentator over a short time (up to 20minutes) so you do not loose concentration.
