Six years after the Panama Papers exposed the abuse of Aotearoa-NZ's companies and trusts by money launderers, the Govt will set up a public register of beneficial ownership of firms, but not trusts

TLDR: The Government finally announced a public register of beneficial ownership of companies to try to track the use of our easy-to-set-up companies for money laundering.

But the announcement didn’t include trust owners in the crackdown, which came six years after it was exposed, four years after it was recommended, and three months after it was decided.
