Dawn Chorus for Wed May 11
PM bringing forward border opening to July from Oct; Aucklanders & mayoral candidates oppose congestion charges; Clark set to regulate supermarkets; Auckland harbour gondola plan; US 10yr below 3%
TLDR: Economists and transport purists love congestion charges, but the public don’t. A poll on a plan to be announced next Monday found 75% of Aucklanders opposed it and two centre-right Mayoral candidates are set to campaign against congestion charges.
Also, the Government is edging ever closer to intervening in the groceries sector to force the duopoly to sell goods at regulated wholesale rates to rivals. See more on that below the paywall, including the same tasty block of cheese selling for half the price in Australia.
Watch out later today for the PM’s pre-Budget address to Business NZ via Zoom in Auckland. Grant Robertson’s pre-Budget speech in Wellington is due tomorrow.
