TL;DR: Finally, a bank in Aotearoa-New Zealand has found a way to lend to iwi members to build homes on iwi land without the need for a clear and transferable land title individually owned by the home builder to back its mortgage.
BNZ announced yesterday it had agreed a legal and lending framework with Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei to provide mortgages at regular interest rates to fund the building of 24 homes on Hawaiki St, Ōrākei in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, which it said could be applied by other banks.
