Briefly this morning in Aotearoa’s political economy:

  • Nicola Willis may be about to means test the Government’s already-reduced $251 521 per person per year KiwiSaver contribution in Budget 2025.

  • Air New Zealand lowers its emissions reduction target to barely 20% by 2030.

  • The Commerce Commission says a market study of Air New Zealand’s dominance of domestic aviation isn’t needed.

  • Infrastructure NZ’s CEO says the sector is hurting and has called for more immediate infrastructure projects in Budget 2025, plus a proper population plan.

  • Former Australian PM Malcolm Turnbull says Winston Peters has been weak and too subservient in his comments about Donald Trump.

  • US GDP fell unexpectedly in the March quarter because of a pre-tariff surge of imports, while China reported a slump in export orders from the US in April.
