Auckland to stay at level three for at least two more weeks

PM said Cabinet considered level four circuit breaker, but was concerned about compliance and saw no more reduction at level four than level three; Vaccination target to be revealed Friday

PM Jacinda Ardern announced at the post-cabinet 4pm news conference in the Beehive today that cabinet had decided:

  • Auckland and Waikato will stay at level three restrictions after considering a ‘circuit-breaker’ shift back up to level four for Auckland,

  • Northland will drop from level three to level two from 11.59pm on Tuesday,

  • Waikato’s level will be reconsidered on Friday, while Auckland’s restrictions will stay at level three for at least another two weeks,

  • The Government will announce an Australian-style specific vaccination target on Friday, beyond which restrictions would be progressively lifted,

  • The Government will announce a new package of business support on Friday.
