Ask Me Anything about the week to July 22
Bernard Hickey is on site from 12pm to 1pm to answer questions about the week's news, including; 7.3% inflation; the 30/30 fiscal guidelines; fears of another house-building bust; the ECB's hike to 0%
TLDR: FYI I’m on site from midday until 1pm here to answer questions from paid subscribers about the week's main news, including:
how the 30/30 fiscal guidelines that both parties adhere to is starving Aotearoa-NZ of the $200b of infrastructure investment it needs over the next 30 years, especially if we keep growing our population fast through bringing in migrant workers;
our inflation rate rose to 7.3% in the June quarter, which was more than expected and sparked a fresh round of teeth-gnashing over who was to blame and what to do next;
house builders reported an 80-90% fall in new home-build inquiries, which they fear will lead to another 2008/09 bust once the current pipeline of building ends in 12-24 months; and,
the European Central Bank tightened monetary policy for the first time in 11 years and by the most in 22 years as it grappled with 8.6% inflation and the risk of another European debt crisis.
Jump in and fill your boots.
