Sweden’s central bank surprised most last night with a full 100 basis point hike in its official cash rate to 1.75%. Markets had expected 75 basis points.
New UK PM Liz Truss had to acknowledge last night that a British trade deal with the United States could be years away because of her threat to tear up the Northern Ireland protocol as part of Brexit.
Germany reported annual producer price inflation rose to a record-high 45.8% in August, thanks largely to a 139% rise in energy prices because of Russia’s gas cuts.
